Wrexham Council confirms “non-stop gritting on priority routes” during cold snap

Wrexham Council has confirmed non-stop gritting on priority routes in the county borough in response to the ongoing icy conditions.

It comes off the back of several days of sub-zero temperatures and wintery weather.

A fresh weather warning was today issued by the Met Office with further icy conditions expected throughout Thursday, 9 January.

Darren Williams, Wrexham Council’s Chief Officer for Environment and Technical Services, said the local authority will be “undertaking non-stop gritting on Priority One routes” across the county borough.

This includes main roads, schools and bus routes.

However he warned that other, untreated services will likely be “difficult to negotiate.”

“The latest weather forecast suggests temperatures are likely to remain sub-zero throughout the day and night for the next few days,” said Darren Williams.

“Everyone should take extreme care with driving and journeys should be avoided if possible.

“We will be undertaking non-stop gritting on our Priority One routes to ensure these remain navigable, but members of the public should be aware that any other untreated surfaces are likely to be difficult to negotiate.

“Our Priority One gritting routes will ensure main roads, roads to school and bus routes remain as clear as practical and gritting will now commence around the clock on these routes for at least the next few days.

“Please be aware that disruption to our planned services is envisaged given the forecast, and will impact our attempts to collect waste and recycling collections.

“Can I please ask everyone to take extreme care when out and about over the next few days while we get through this cold snap.”
