Work begins to demolish The Jolly Falstaff pub

The Jolly Falstaff, on Blackbrook Square, has been vacant for a number of years and the site has remained unused.

The former pub has been plagued by anti-social behaviour, with Cheshire Police frequently requesting that youths stay away from the site.

The last public appeal was in July 2024, following two incidents in the vicinity of the building within a week.

Youths were moved on from the boarded-up site by officers, who commented that it had been the subject of drug use, arson and general anti-social behaviour around the period.

Plans were originally submitted to demolish the pub before being withdrawn in November 2023 and promptly resubmitted.

“Due to the public house being unused for some time, and there being no desire for reopening, the proposal is for the public house to be demolished,” documents stated.

“The public house will be demolished down to ground floor slab level, with the slab and foundations remaining in situ.

“The site is currently unused and will remain unused after the demolition works. There are currently no firm plans to redevelop the site at the time of this application.”

Plans to demolish the pub and tarmac the site were approved at a Warrington Borough Council planning meeting in October.

Work is now well underway to level and tarmac the former pub, but the future use of the site still remains undetermined.
