Worcester unprepared for 2030 petrol and diesel ban

The study shows the city has less than one public EV charging station per square mile.

Breakwells Transport used Shell’s interactive map to locate all public recharge points in the West Midlands’ 25 most-populated cities.

The report highlights the difference between Worcester, with just 0.15 charging points per square mile, and Coventry, which leads the UK with 9.7 charging points per square mile.

Telford ranks as the least prepared, with 0.05 charging points per square mile, placing Worcester as the third least equipped area for electric vehicle drivers.

The five least prepared cities are Telford (0.0545 chargers per square mile), Bromsgrove (0.1413), Worcester (0.1535), Rugby (0.1754), and Tamworth (0.1772).

The five most prepared cities are Coventry (9.7051 chargers per square mile), Stourbridge (1.1321), Halesowen (0.7339), Wolverhampton (0.6627), and Shrewsbury (0.6494).

The findings come ahead of the government’s plan to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030.

The government has pledged £1.6 billion to expand the UK’s charging network.
