Woman took car without consent spat at police on M56 after crash

Victoria Dobson assaulted the two officers on the motorway following a crash, after she took a vehicle without the consent of the owner.

The 41-year-old was handed a suspended sentence when she appeared before Warrington Magistrates’ Court recently.

This came after she pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to charges of aggravated vehicle taking, failing to provide a specimen for analysis and two counts of assault by beating of an emergency worker.

The court heard how events unfolded following a crash on the M56 at around 9.50pm on September 27 last year, explained Jessica Pridding, prosecuting.

This occurred on the westbound carriageway near junction 10 for Stretton, involving two vehicles, a BMW three-series, driven by Dobson, and a Renault Kadjar.

There were no reports of serious injuries, but the defendant was arrested at the scene and assaulted a male and female officer by spitting at and kicking them

Dobson also refused to provide a sample for analysis at Warrington Hospital.

Magistrates commented that the severity of the offences meant that the case had crossed the custody threshold.

However, taking into account her guilty pleas and the steps she has already taken to rehabilitate herself.

Dobson, of Armistice Drive in Winsford, was sentenced to 48 weeks in prison, but this was suspended for the next 18 months.

During this period, she must also complete 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days and undertake 180 hours of unpaid community work.

In addition, the court disqualified her from driving for 36 months.

No order was made for costs or a surcharge, with compensation of £500 prioritised, and an application was approved for the sums to be deducted from her benefits.
