Winchester Science Centre partners with Winnall school

Winnall Primary School and Wonderseekers, the charity behind the Winchester Science Centre, have been working for 18 months to provide enhanced science experiences for pupils.

This partnership ensures that every child at the school has multiple opportunities each year to engage with science at no cost to their families.

“Developing partnerships was highlighted as a key strength of the school in our recent Ofsted report and it’s clear to see the many benefits partnerships such as this give pupils at Winnall.”

Wonderseekers has been working with communities to increase access to science experiences in areas where this has traditionally been limited.

Head of equity, community and outreach, Andy Keenan, said: “At Wonderseekers, we know that inspirational science experiences can inspire children and enable them to develop skills to help them lead happier and healthier lives.

“We have loved working with the children and staff at Winnall Primary School over the past 18 months and we can’t wait to see what new adventures we’ll be getting up to in 2025.”

In the last year alone, the children at Winnall have visited Winchester Science Centre on school trips, been given a free family summer visit ticket, taken part in several projects involving topics such as caterpillars and satellites, had a visit from a mobile planetarium, and enjoyed a Christmas science show.

Pupils in Year 5 also completed a Sound of Biodiversity project across the school site with university researchers which resulted in the design of a funded £12,000 wildlife walk that is opening later in the year.

The school has also developed links with Winchester College, Integr8 dance and Pimlico Opera to give the pupils opportunities in street dance, singing and the classics.
