Winchester Cathedral to host sea shanty and folk music gig

The Longest Johns and El Pony Pisador will perform at Winchester Cathedral as part of their UK tour on Saturday, February 8.

The bands will perform a set list inspired by their collaborative album, The Longest Pony.

The Longest Johns, from Bristol, are known for their sea shanties and folk songs.

The Longest Johns and El Pony Pisador will perform at Winchester Cathedral (Image: Abbie Darley and Michal Novak) They rose to fame with their viral hit Wellerman and have since gained a large following online.

El Pony Pisador, from Catalonia, are known for their inclusive sound, drawing on traditional songs from around the world, especially Celtic influences and sea shanties.

The Longest Johns’ Jonathan ‘JD’ Darley said: “The songs of the sea know no boundaries so it’s perfectly natural to us to make music with our Catalán friends, our brothers in song.”

El Pony Pisador added: “This collaboration was born from friendship and mutual respect between our two groups, and shows we can be proudly independent while celebrating all that we have in common.”

The bands have promised their UK tour will be “even bigger and better” than their previous performances.
