The East Coast mainline and the Northern Rail lines are subject to delays and cancellations
The line from Bishop Auckland to Darlington, and from York to Knaresborough are currently blocked, with services cancelled, and delays anticipated til the end of the day (Sunday, January 5).
Stranded vehicles and collisions have left key roads in northern England closed – including standstill traffic on the A1 through County Durham, and the A66 front County Durham to Cumbria shut.

National Highways warned that up to 25cm of snow could affect roads in northern England.

LNER has said that “Heavy snow is currenlty impacting the London North Eastern Railway network. Services may be delayed or cancelled.”
LNER tickets from today will be valid for use on Monday, January 6. If you are unable to defer your journey, tickets can also be used with Transpennine Express (from Manchester to Leeds, and York to Newcastle), or Northern.
Trains from Darlington to Bishop Auckland have been cancelled for the rest of the day.
