The first phase of the Whipps Cross Hospital construction, consisting of the creation of a new multi storey car park, is set to be complete by the middle of next year.
Once the car park, which will be able to house up to 500 vehicles, is completed in August, work on the new hospital can then begin.
This first phase of construction follows months of growing concerns surrounding the future of Whipps Cross Hospital rebuild, after the government announced a major funding review of the New Hospitals Programme.
Back in July, Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves had said that the government’s commitment to build 40 new hospitals by 2030 was “undeliverable and unaffordable,” promising to “reset” the programme on a “sustainable footing.”
In October however, health secretary Wes Streeting confirmed that the redevelopment was indeed going ahead.
A follow-up summit is due to take place next year on how the new Whipps Cross hospital will be able to harness the latest technology to provide the best possible care for patients.
