Police have released statistics revealing which parts of Southwark saw the most crime in December.

The News has gathered the data to find out which were the most crime-ridden wards in 2024.

Borough and Bankside: 3,954 crimes recorded

Borough and Bankside saw the most recorded offences recorded (3,954) of any Southwark ward in 2024.

The average number of offences recorded each month (336) remained roughly the same as in 2023

With its high tourist footfall, it is unsurprising to see theft (2,672) was the most frequently recorded offence.

Violence against the person (350), burglary (224) and robbery (223) also kept police officers busy.

London Bridge and West Bermondsey: 3,797 crimes recorded

London Bridge and West Bermondsey came in at second place in 2024.

This Central London ward, with its major transport hubs, was targetted by thieves on 2,161 occasions, according to police data.

This was followed by violence against the person (570), robbery (198) and burglary (188).

Overall, there was a slight drop compared to 2023. That year there was an average of 350 offences recorded each month compared to 316 in 2024.

North Walworth: 3,640 crimes recorded

North Walworth was the third most crime-ridden ward in Southwark in 2024, according to Met Police data.

Theft was once again the most commonly recorded offence (1,936) followed by violence against the person (570).

These were followed by public order offences (191), burglarly (182) and robbery (177).

Rye Lane: 2,111 crimes recorded

Rye Lane, fourth on this list, saw a high proportion of violent incidents although theft was the most commonly reported offence.

Police recorded 889 thefts and 469 incidents of violence against the person.

These were followed by public order offences (157), vehicle offences (142) and burglary (122).

Crime was slighly down compared to 2023. There was an average of 172 offences recorded each month compared to 176 in 2023.

Chaucer: 1,944 crimes recorded

Theft was the most commonly reported offence in all of the top five wards, with Chaucer seeing 868 reported incidents.

The ward, which encompasses much of Borough and the area north of Elephant and Castle, had 1,944 offences recorded in total.

Within that, there were high rates of violence against the person (412), burglary (137) and robbery (137).
