West Fife youngsters bring sold-out Fringe musical to Fife

The Kingdom Theatre Company will perform ‘Shapiro: A Pop Star Musical’.

The cast includes Theo Hart, 15, from Inverkeithing High School, Lily Martin, 13, from Dunfermline High School, and Amelie Christie, 14, from Queen Anne High School.

The 80-minute show, which was a hit at the Ivy Studio during last year’s Edinburgh Fringe, is based on the true story of schoolgirl Helen Shapiro.

Mrs Shapiro rose to fame in the early 1960s and toured the UK with The Beatles as her support act at the age of just 15.

The show features a blend of original songs and hits from the era, with a retro set and authentic costumes.

‘Shapiro: A Pop Star Musical’ will be performed at 2pm on February 1 at Lochgelly Theatre, with tickets available on the On Fife website.

Last year, the young cast met with Helen Shapiro to gather notes about her experiences at Abbey Road studios and the pressures of pop.

Director Isobel Brown said: “This is a great nostalgic trip back to the beat boom of the 1960s.

“Opening the show, we have a Back To The Sixties revue with a variety of singers performing, bringing those great days back to the live stage.”
