West Fife footballer sustains injuries in road crash

Hamilton Academical released a statement today (Monday) on former Queen Anne High School pupil Ben Williamson, who is 23 and from Blairhall.

It said: “We are immensely saddened by the news of the injuries sustained by our player Ben Williamson in a road traffic accident.

“At this time, we cannot comment on the circumstances of the accident, but we shall support Ben appropriately and he has our best wishes for a speedy recovery.

“Our thoughts are very much with him at this difficult time.”

The news has led to messages of support from across the football world.

Former Accies boss Dougie Imrie, now manager of Greenock Morton, said: “Great lad. Hopefully he’s on the mend very soon and back doing what he loves doing playing.

“Thoughts are with you wee man.”

Raith Rovers seniors community club posted: “Fingers crossed that it’s not to serious for him and thoughts to everyone involved in the accident, wishing Ben a speedy recovery.”

A product of the Rangers youth system, Williamson has had spells at Arbroath, Dundee, Livingston, Raith Rovers and Partick Thistle before signing for Hamilton in January last year.
