Warrington drivers warned as snow causes havoc on town roads

Already a number of recovery vehicles have had to be sent to London Road in Stockton Heath with cars struggling to get uphill.

At around 9.45am there were about six stranded vehicles and a jack-knifed lorry in need of assistance.

National Highways are advising motorists to plan for disruption to journeys.

A spokesman said: “Road users are advised to check ahead and plan for disruption to their journeys.

“A spell of disruptive snow is going to spread across the network this weekend.

“The snow will last several hours (approximately six to seven) but will eventually turn back to rain, initiating a thaw.

“In the north, the snow will arrive later but will tend to stall and decay in-situ through the remainder of Sunday, leading to greater accumulations.

“National Highways, in conjunction with the Met Office, are strongly advising that travel is likely to be extended or even disrupted.

“Road users are advised to take extra care if travelling over the weekend.”
