Videos were taken yesterday, Sunday, showing water pouring into the station through the ceiling and light fixtures.
Warrington Borough Council has now confirmed that the issue was a burst pipe, which caused a water leak.
The bus station was closed temporarily yesterday, and while the leak has been stopped, a detailed assessment will take place tomorrow to assess what repair works are needed.
In the meantime, there are significant changes for passengers to be aware of if they normally begin or end their journeys at the interchange, or they change buses there.
What are the temporary changes?
For tomorrow, passengers should follow the general rule of thumb to get off a stop early, or get on at their first normal outbound stop, wherever possible.
To that end, services will be stopping/starting from the following locations
Help and advice will be on hand from staff who will be based outside the interchange and who will be able to provide guidance for passengers’ onward journeys.
Services inbound
- For services entering Warrington, buses will end at:
- Sankey Street, near 9Gallon, for services from the west/south
- Warrington Central train station for services from the north
- Scotland Road, outside the Looking Glass pub, from the east
Services leaving Warrington
For services leaving Warrington, buses will begin from:
- Legh Street for services to the west/ south (this includes services 1,2,5,6,7,8,9, 10,12,13,14,15,16,16A,17-Callands,18,25,28,28A, 31, 31A, 32, 33, 47, 62, 100, 110, X30)

- Scotland Road – a temporary bus stop will be established on Scotland Road for outbound services (this includes services 3,4,11)
Passengers who are changing buses will need to walk between the last inbound stop and first outbound stop as advised above.
If any passengers are in doubt, please contact your normal service operator or speak to a member of staff who will be based at the interchange.
Please also allow a little more time for your journeys where possible.
The council says it will provide an update again once an assessment of the interchange has been undertaken.
