Warrington auctioneer H&H Classics sold £14million of vehicles in 2024

It proved to be another successful year for Appleton Thorn-based H&H Classics through the sale of classic and performance cars, motorcycles and scooters.

The auction house, established in 1993, also achieved an impressive 74 per cent sales rate across nine auctions held in 2024, with winning bids coming from individuals based in 37 countries around the world.

As well as A-list celebrity cars going under the hammer – including an Aston Martin Vanquish used by Pierce Brosnan to promote the James Bond film Die Another Day, and a 1992 Mercedes-Benz 500SL first owned by Sir Stirling Moss – there was also a varied mix of high-value classic cars successfully hammered away.

These included a 1930 Bugatti Type 46 Weymann Coupe selling for £300,000, a 1967 Aston Martin DB6 auctioned for £250,000, and a 1938 Jaguar SS100 2 which was bought for £225,000.

Meanwhile, the three highest-selling motorcycles during the year were a 1952 Vincent Black Shadow Series C for £46,000, a 1942 Indian 741B for £26,450, and a 1980 Ducati 900 SS for £20,700.

Additionally, vintage scooters also attracted intense bidding, and the top three selling were a 1965 Vespa GS160 Official Quadrophenia Album Scooter hammered away for £21,850, a 1965 Lambretta GT200 ‘Paul Smith’ auctioned for £17,480, and a 1968 Rimini Lambretta Ancillotti Special bought for £15,525.

James McWilliam, sales manager at H&H Classics, said: “Market conditions continue to show that enthusiasts are keen to buy vehicles with sensible estimates and careful sale curation.

“Indeed, our auctions in 2024 attracted almost 11,000 bidders, whether in person, by commission bidding, or on the telephone or online.”

H&H Classics is the longest continually trading specialist automotive auction house in the UK and Europe.
