A wine shop in Bury St Edmunds has been recognised in a prestigious listing which celebrates the nation’s best merchants of wines, spirits and beers.
Vino Gusto, in Hatter Street, has been named in Harpers 50 Best Indies 2025 list.
A position in the listing places a business among the top six per cent of quality-focused independent drinks retailers in the UK — with Vino Gusto ranking at number 35.

The judging criteria include the company’s ethos, product range, customer and client services, marketing, staff training, innovation, business growth and sustainability efforts.
Vino Gusto, which began as a pop-up during the first Covid lockdowns, has been described by Harpers as ‘thriving’ with a ‘more-than-healthy wholesale arm’.
Harpers also said: “The classics are well covered, but sourcing indigenous grapes from more adventurous regions and then using at both in-house and off-site tastings to promote these is very much a feature of this merchant.”

The shop started online and operated out of The One Bull in Bury in 2020.
It was a three-way project between Gusto Pronto owners Roxane and David Marjoram and Jake Bennett-Day, group beverage manager for the company.
Vino Gusto is part of the Gusto Pronto brand, which also owns The One Bull and The Cadogan in Ingham.
Post-covid, the trio decided to set up Vino Gusto as its own business in its own dedicated space, and in March 2022, the Hatter Street shop opened doors.

Jake said: “What started as a pop-up a few years ago in a cold empty boozer is now a bonafide wine merchant.
“This is a real moment of pride in achieving some distance in a short space of time.
“None of that journey would have been possible or fun without the awesome people that make Vino Gusto what is. That includes you, lovely customers.”
Vino Gusto is the only independent wine shop in the town, featuring 600 wines spread across two floors and offering both local and national delivery.
It also has a tasting room, which hosts regular informal tasting events.
The owners additionally host their own Vino Gusto podcast, featuring wine-related conversations.
Roxane added: “We’re absolutely thrilled to see Vino Gusto listed at number 35 and it’s a real honour to find ourselves in such illustrious company.”
