A professor with 30 years experience of “fostering academic innovation” has been given a crucial leadership role in shaping the University of the Highlands and Islands’ (UHI) future.
UHI appointed Professor Brian Williams as deputy principal (academic and research) after what it says was a “comprehensive and competitive” recruitment process.
Professor Williams served most recently as interim deputy principal (Academic and Research) with UHI, building on three decades of experience in higher education.

Throughout his career, Professor Williams has held senior leadership positions across several Scottish universities, leading advancements in learning, teaching and research.
That includes spearheading curriculum development, enhancing research capacity and improving student outcomes.
UHI says the appointment reflects the university’s commitment to fostering academic innovation and growth to place students at the heart of UHI, adding that his “wealth of knowledge and strategic vision will continue to strengthen UHI’s academic and research landscape”.
