Tynedale women recognised in New Year Honours List 2025

The King’s New Year Honours List contains recommendations from the prime minister, senior government ministers and members of the public for those deserving recognition.

Those on the list have often dedicated time to serving the public or otherwise contributed to the country.

MBE, CBE and OBE medals are handed out to recipients.

Professor Alison Pamela Murdoch, former president of the British Fertility Society, was made an MBE for her services to fertility treatment.

Professor Murdoch, from Wylam, worked in the Department of Reproductive Medicine at the International Centre for Life in Newcastle.

Karon Eileen Elizabeth Wright, founder and artistic director of the Samling Institute for Young Artists, was also made an MBE for services to music.

Ms Wright, from Hexham, has been the driving force behind Samling from its inception in 1996, initiating and developing projects, and raising the funding to underpin the charity’s programme.

The Samling Institute has helped hundreds of talented young musicians through unique coaching programmes, performance opportunities and ongoing support.
