TXIN: Indian-Texan smokehouse to open in Salisbury in 2025

TXIN, on Catherine Street, will open in the former Greengages unit in 2025, as the UK’s first Indian and Texan smokehouse.

Behind the magic is the Ghosh family, mum Sudipa (49), dad Nilashis (48), son Ssnehnil (19) and daughter Snehhrwita(12), naming their restaurant using the abbreviations for Texas and India – TX and IN respectively.

Having lived in India until the early 2000s, Sudipa and Nilashis worked in hospitality and design, before moving to the UK with the idea of opening their own business in the back of their minds.

After a difficult few years for the family, particularly for Sudipa who underwent several major surgeries, the family felt it was time to put their dreams into reality.

Sudipa said: “It made us think about what’s important in life. It was just the time to decide what was right, we just thought, this is the time now. Let’s go for it.”

Working in corporate at the time, Sudipa also felt she wanted to work for herself, not others. Having previously worked for an American company, which meant the family embarked on several trips to the head office in Houston, they found a love for Texan BBQ cuisine.

Fused with Indian flavours, sauces and sides, it will make for the first restaurant of its kind.

Nilashis said: “Our experience with how they do it [Texans] – we fell in love with the cuisine. It was always in the back of our minds – how can we be different?”

With the creativity of Ssnehnil and Snehhrwita for creating the interior designs, website and logo, the grade II listed building will see its history preserved and featured, including its Greengages plaque as a nod to the site’s former tenants.

The family would like to extend their thanks to landlords Mr and Mrs Barnard, management Malcolm Birch and Rob and Meghan from Woolley and Wallis for their help in putting their dreams into reality.

No opening date is confirmed as refurbishment works continue, but the family look forward to opening their doors in the new year.
