Officers this morning confirmed an 18-year-old man and 17-year-old boy have been arrested in connection with the incident and taken into custody.

The footage shows a group of young men near the store entrance as shoppers and workers go about their business.

One of the group can then be seen confronting the security guard and hurling abuse.

As the officer backs away and attempts to hold the youth off, he continues to approach the guard and shout obscenities at him.

It was also reported a door was damaged in the ruckus.

A police spokesperson told KentOnline officers were called to the store just after 5pm yesterday, but arrived to find the suspects had fled the scene.

Today, two arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

A spokesperson said: “Kent Police was called at 5.03pm on Friday, January 17 to a disturbance involving a group of four people at Tesco in St Lawrence, Ramsgate. It is reported threats were made to staff including a security guard, and that a door was damaged.

“Officers attended and the suspects had left the scene. On Saturday, January 18 further enquiries led to the arrests of an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy. Both were taken into custody.”

Inspector Jon Press added: “Shop staff provide an important service to their local communities and we remain determined to do all we can to support them and keep them safe from thieves and violent offenders.

“I hope these prompt arrests will reassure both businesses and members of the public that any abuse directed to retail workers is something we are simply not willing to tolerate.”

Tesco has been approached for comment.
