Two further cases confirmed near Watton and Attleborough with surveillance zone bordering Thetford and in Suffolk villages

Two more cases of bird flu have been confirmed at sites in East Anglia.

Last night, Defra said highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 was confirmed at a third premises near Watton, in Mid Norfolk.

A 3km protection zone and a 10km surveillance zone have been declared surrounding the premises.

This revokes and replaces a temporary control zone.

A spokesperson said all poultry on the premises will be humanely culled.

Meanwhile, (HPAI) H5N1 was confirmed in commercial poultry at a second premises near Attleborough, in Norfolk.

A 3km protection zone and a 10km surveillance zone have been declared surrounding the premises.

All poultry on the premises will be humanely culled.

The 10km surveillance zone borders Thetford and edges into Suffolk covering villages including Barningham, Market Weston, Coney Weston, Thelnetham and Hinderclay.

Both Suffolk and Norfolk remain under the regional avian influenza prevention zone.

This was put in place after a number of HPAI findings in both wild birds and commercial poultry.

The zone means it is a legal requirement for all bird keepers in the county to follow strict biosecurity measures to help protect their animals.

However, it does not mean people have to house their birds.

It is hoped the new measures will mitigate the risk of further outbreaks of the disease.

Other confirmed cases have been at sites in the Dereham and Cranworth areas.
