Ty Round, aged 21, was told she would be losing her job on Monday morning (December 30) as the owners of TruGym at Weaver’s Wharf unexpectedly announced it would be closing on January 1.
Ms Round had only just returned back to her job as a receptionist at the gym having been on maternity leave.
She said she was “disappointed” and “angry” about being told without much notice and is concerned about how she will support her eight-month-old baby girl Nova-Rae.
Ms Round said: “I’m not happy. I’ve got to hunt for a job not just to provide for me but my child as well. Because it’s just after Christmas, it’s not that easy to find a job.
“I have been there for nearly four years. I started off as a cleaner and I worked my way up to be a key holder and a receptionist. I would say there were about ten of us (staff members).”
A statement by TruGym outlined that the closure was a “last resort for everybody involved” and that the gym chain “deeply regret” the decision.

Ms Round added: “It’s dropped on us so quickly. I’ve got to try and hunt for a job that can suit my childcare.
“Just by having a brief look, there aren’t many jobs out there that can accommodate my needs”.
A spokesperson for TruGym said: “Needless to say, TruGym is extremely sorry to announce this news, and we must stress that this has been a last resort for everyone involved.
“We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Sally and the entire Kidderminster team for their incredible dedication and hard work. They have been instrumental in serving our members and maintaining a welcoming community within the club.
“We deeply regret the closure of this location but appreciate your understanding. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us via email at kidderminster@trugym.co.uk.
“Thank you for being part of the TruGym community”.
