Tributes paid to Kilwinning Scout group president Andy McKee

The much-loved local passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 22, aged 92.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, January 4, at 10am in the Abbey Church in Kilwinning and thereafter to the town’s cemetery.

In light of his passing the 19th Ayrshire Kilwinning Scout group – which Andy was a member of for over 70 years – moved quickly to pay their respects.

During his time in the organisation, he also held a number of key roles including scout and group scout leader as well as positions as group and district chair. 

A spokesperson said: “Andy quietly worked away in the background to ensure our Scout group had the capacity to deliver active Scouting for all our young people.

“He took a keen interest in all Scout group sections and he was really proud of the fact that the 19th Ayrshire Scouts were one of the strongest groups in the local area.

“Andy was awarded the Silver Wolf Award in 2011, the highest award in Scouting for an adult member.

“Our thoughts are with the family at this tough time.”

While many others who came to know Andy also looked to pay homage to him.

One person commented: “Andy was a constant presence throughout my time in scouting and did so much for the group with such little fanfare.

“A class act and a true quiet gentleman of Kilwinning.”

Another added: “So sorry to hear this a lovely lovely man who will be missed sincere condolences to all the family.”
