Community group The Mobile Cinema announced the tragic passing of John Cello in a statement earlier this week.
The group are primarily based at the Church of the Nazarene in Ardrossan though tour across North Ayrshire to help communities make connections through film.
John became an integral, and popular, part of the volunteer team in June 2022, showing unwavering commitment since then.
A group spokesperson added: “He was a fine example of what an active citizen is, an exemplar of how volunteering makes a difference to people and communities.
“He was always in good humour, supportive of the other volunteers, contributing to the discussion and planning and being part of the decision making within the cinema team.
“He will be missed, and all of us at The Mobile Cinema share our condolences with his family and his partner.”
Others moved quickly to pay homage to John after hearing the sad news of his passing.
One person commented: “John was such a lovely person and a great support to the community – sending our condolences to family and friends of dear John.”
Another added: “John was a great guy, so nice and cheery and an asset to the groups he was involved with.”
