Traffic to be diverted through Sproughton and Bramford as part of Europa Way link road project in Ipswich

A seven mile diversion will be in place as part of the next phase of a major link road project in Ipswich.

Suffolk Highways has warned that both lanes in Bramford Road, between the A14 underpass and Weaver Close, will be shut from January 27 until February 28.

A single lane closure has been in effect since work began to link Bramford Road and Europa Way in September, aside from two weeks over the Christmas period, where traffic was allowed to flow freely.

A spokesman for Suffolk Highways said: “The next phase of works will involve working on Bramford Road and will include realignment and reconstruction of the carriageway, as well as extensive drainage improvement works.

“To ensure these essential works can be carried out as planned, please continue to adhere to ‘no parking’ cones which have been placed by our working zone to enable the safe completion of works.

“A letter has been issued today to affected residents on Bramford Road to provide further details on access during the closure, as well as the arrangements for household waste collections whilst the road is closed.

“Thank you to the local community for their continued patience and understanding whilst we complete these major infrastructure improvements.”

For the entirety of the road closure, traffic will be diverted via the B1067 Bramford Road onto Yarmouth Road and London Road, before joining the A1071 and the B1113.

The diversion will take motorists through Bramford and Sproughton before they rejoin the B1067.

This route is reversed for traffic in the other direction.

The scheme aims to increase connectivity between Bramford Road and Sproughton Road.

Suffolk County Council hoped this would ease congestion in the area, which can get busy during peak hours, while mitigating traffic through residential streets.

The work is being carried out across six phases and will use various traffic management methods for each, including temporary traffic lights and pedestrian crossing points.
