Torquay’s Pier Point nets double honours in prestigious Fry Magazine awards

Torquay’s award-grabbing Pier Point Bar, Restaurant & Takeaway has been at it again.

Its latest achievement is a prestigious double accolade, being named one of the UK’s Top 10 Fish & Chip Restaurants and one of the Top 50 Best Takeaways in the 2025 Fry Magazine Awards.

The awards, conducted by the highly respected trade publication, saw mystery diners rigorously inspect entries on key aspects such as food quality, premises cleanliness, customer service, value for money, and social media presence. With a challenging pass mark of 96 per cent, Pier Point surpassed expectations, earning an impressive 97 per cent for the restaurant and 98 per cent for the takeaway.

The judges particularly commended Pier Point’s consistently high standards, noting: “The fish was perfectly cooked, moist throughout, and served at the ideal temperature. The chips were evenly coloured, perfectly cooked, and served as a generous portion. Staff were professional, smartly dressed, and welcoming throughout, creating an exceptional dining experience.”

Owner Lorraine Arnold, reflecting on the achievement, said: “This is a moment of immense pride for us as a team and as a part of Torquay’s vibrant community. Our mission has always been to deliver the best food, service, and atmosphere, and these awards are a testament to the hard work and passion of everyone involved. To be recognised both as a top 10 restaurant and a top 50 takeaway in the UK is truly an honour.”

Competition organiser Reece Head congratulated Pier Point, adding: “At a time when the hospitality industry faces immense challenges, it’s inspiring to see businesses like Pier Point excel, maintaining exceptional standards and delivering value to their customers. They have truly earned their place among the best in the country.”

This recognition comes after a stellar year for Pier Point, including accolades such as winning gold and silver at the Food Drink Devon Awards and being crowned finalists in the National Fish and Chip Awards. With this latest success, the restaurant is setting the stage for even greater achievements in 2025 including the National fish and chip awards in February where they are currently second in the country.
