Jason Parker left the male officer with a facial injury following the incident, which saw him charged with threatening to destroy property and assault by beating of an emergency worker.
The 37-year-old changed his plea from not guilty to guilty at a previous occasion, with the case brought back to Warrington Magistrates’ Court recently for sentencing.
Zara Kayani, prosecuting, explained how both charges stemmed from incidents committed in Latchford on October 28, 2023.
Parker made a threat to burn down The Cheshire Cheese Pub on Knutsford Road, and then struck a police officer to the side of the face.
Magistrates highlighted that the severity of his offending merited a custodial sentence, including the threat made, the fact that he assaulted an emergency worker, and that the officer sustained ‘more than minor physical injuries’.
However, taking his guilty pleas into account, they opted to suspend the sentence, adding that he is deemed to be a ‘realistic prospect of rehabilitation’.
Parker, of Lowe Avenue in Latchford, was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison, but this was suspended for the next 12 months.
During this time, he must complete 10 rehabilitation activity requirement days and pay compensation of £250.
He has also been banned from entering The Cheshire Cheese pub for the next 12 months.
No orders for costs or a surcharge were made due to compensation taking priority and his ‘limited means’, with an application approved for the funds to be deducted from his benefits.
