First, the area’s Opportunities in Retirement (OIR) group marked 35 years of operating across Ardrossan, Saltcoats and Stevenston.

The group offers a wide variety of activities across the region every week including dancing, aqua aerobics, keep fit, knit and natter, walking groups and walking football sessions which are held over a range of venues.

Their landmark occasion was celebrated last year with a special event at the Ardrossan Civic Centre with over 100 members turning out to enjoy tea, coffee and food.

It was also a momentous year for the Park Church Autumn Club – who celebrated 30 years since their formation in 2024.

Although the year saw change at the Church of Scotland building – which was renamed the Ardrossan Parish Church and now accommodates members from the former North Parish and St Cuthbert’s churches – the non-denominational, non-political, leisure and companionable group has remained a constant.

The idea of forming the club was the inspiration of the late Rev Alex Downie, brought into being by a group of his parishioners when it was the former Park Church.

It developed into an independent club welcoming all and serving mainly the older age group.

A special celebration – which included the cutting of a birthday cake by the last surviving founding members – saw an impressive turnout to an anniversary luncheon held at the parish.
