The Golden Hind in Nacton Road, Ipswich, undergoing £190,000 refurb

A popular Ipswich pub is undergoing a major £190,000 facelift.

The owners of The Golden Hind, in Nacton Road, announced on Monday that work was under way to give the pub a spruce up.

Workers will focus on breathing new life into the pub’s lounge bar, upstairs function room, toilets, kitchen, hallway and beer garden.

Work is expected to be finished by February 1 and the sports bar will remain open throughout.

However, the kitchen shut yesterday and will reopen on January 17.

The couple said: “We are really excited to announce that we are having a £190,000 refurb.

“We can’t wait to see the end results and details of our grand re-opening of the lounge bar will be released soon too.”

In 2024, The Golden Hind was named by SuffolkNews readers as their favourite pub in the county.

They were followed by runners-up, The White Horse Inn, in Stoke Ash, near Eye, with The Fox and Hounds, in Thurston, near Bury St Edmunds, securing the third-place spot.

Darren and Ryan have been at the helm of the pub since 2019, shortly before the country went into lockdown, and have managed to turn it around.
