A Newbury supermarket has applied for planning permission to build an automatic conveyor car wash in its car park.
Tesco Extra in Pinchington Lane wishes to replace its current hand car valeting operation with a mechanised conveyor wash.
The plans also include constructing a valeting bay, two vacuum bays and vehicular access and queuing lane for the new facility.

The new car wash, which would be four times the size of the current one, would be situated on the site now taken up by Waves Hand Car Wash in the Tesco Extra car park.
The plans state: “The proposal responds to the increase in demand for car valeting facilities.
“It offers speed and efficiency, consistency and reliability and provides high volume capability for high traffic locations.
“The conveyor car wash uses automated water recycling systems to minimise waste and ensures eco-friendly cleaning.”

The number of car parking spaces at the supermarket would be reduced by 36 to incorporate the new development, resulting in an overall provision of 544 spaces.
The plans state that the car wash would not affect the route in an out of the car park and there would not be a significant impact on local transport.
If the plans are approved, the car wash would be operated by IMO Car Wash, a company that operates at more than 280 locations across the UK.
