A Cwmbran man’s love of collecting second-hand items led to him tracking down a toy he remembers wanting as a child in the 1980s.
Anthony Higgs, 46, runs a YouTube channel- ‘The Welsh Ant Man1978’– where he shows off bargains he’s picked up from charity and pre-owned shops. Check out the link to his channel in the comments.
He makes what are called ‘pick up’ videos. Bargain hunters share the things they’ve bought from sites like eBay and shops like CEX through videos on YouTube. He specialises in DVDs, CDs, games and video games.
Two years ago he got his hands on the electronic teddy that accompanied ‘The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin’- a cartoon that aired on telly from 1986 to 1987.
He told Cwmbran Life: “I try and mix it up, charity shops mostly, but my favourite is CEX. I go wherever I can find a bargain. If you just get lucky, you take a plunge and buy something you’ve wanted for ages.
“It’s good just looking around. You see what you can find ‘out in the wild’ as they call it.”
The buzz comes from finding items that haven’t been seen for years. The ‘pick up’ community does a good job of reusing and recycling items that some people would just throw away.
Anthony said once he’s finished with old purchases they get donated back to charity or sold to second-hand shops so someone else can enjoy them.
