Southend Pier seals spotted around high tide in pictures

Seals are regular visitors to the coastline and have frequently been spotted in the water surrounding Southend Pier – sometimes even being spotted on the landmark.

This month has been no different, with visitors being delighted by the adorable sea-going animals swimming around the pier.

Southend Pier’s team have dubbed it “seal season”, and urge visitors to take a stroll down the landmark to catch a glimpse of them.

Sharing pictures from recent visitors, a spokesman revealed: “Seals have been spotted recently at the end of the pier.

“The best time to see them is around high tide. If you don’t manage to see the real thing, check out our fabulous new post box topper!

“We’re open Wednesday to Sunday, 10.15am to 5pm – last entry one hour before. Plan your visit now southendpier.co.uk.”

Residents and tourists are always delighted to see seals in the estuary around Southend. In January last year, visitors watched on in delight and shock as a seal took a “stroll” down the pier.

It is believed while the pier team dealt with the seal, the remainder of the visitors were taken back to land via the Sir David Amess train to minimise stress to the seal.
