Carol Mochan expressed “deep concern” over the number of flu cases in recent weeks.
Public Health Scotland figures show a 12 per cent increase in hospital admissions due to flu in just one week.
A total of 1,537 people were hospitalised because of the flu outbreak, compared to 1,375 the previous week.
The politician said: “The recent increase in the number of hospital admissions due to flu cases is extremely worrying.
“Vaccination offers the best protection against serious illness, and I urge all those eligible to act now and make sure they receive their COVID-19 and/or seasonal flu vaccine.
“Drop-in appointments and pop-up clinics have been made available and you should contact your local health board or access their websites for further details.”
NHS Ayrshire and Arran announced that all those eligible for the COVID-19 and/or seasonal flu vaccine can visit a local clinic without an appointment.
The health board has urged residents to get their winter vaccines as soon as possible to help build up maximum protection.
Drop-in appointments and pop-up clinics have been made available for easy access to vaccines.
