A council has called in an extra three refuse lorries to catch up on its festive collections – taking away 650 tonnes of waste over a five-day period.
However, some areas of South Holland will not have their refuse picked up until tomorrow.
The authority apologised to residents after a number of delays in collecting up bin bags across the district.
But the authority says it has now caught up with its collections from the past five days, collecting 650 tonnes of waste in that time period.
This equates to an additional 20-30 tonnes per day.
“We apologise for the recent delays in collections,” an SHDC statement read.
“All recycling from the past five days has now been collected.
“To assist with the routes, we deployed 3 additional refuse vehicles.”
Data from the past five collection days shows:
Tuesday, December 31: 142 tonnes of waste (equivalent of eight double decker buses).
Monday December 30: 161 tonnes of waste (equivalent of 9 double decker buses).
Saturday, December 28: 130 tonnes of waste (equivalent of 7.2 double decker buses).
Friday, December 27: 112 tonnes of waste (equivalent of 6.2 double decker buses).
Tuesday, December 25: 101 tonnes of waste (equivalent of 5.6 double decker buses).
However, due to the waste transfer station closing at 4pm today (January 2), the following areas are affected today: Cowbit, Surfleet, Moulton Eaugate,.
“We will be recollecting these tomorrow (January 3),”” SHDC added.
“Thank you for your patience.”
