With crisp afternoons and frost covered foliage, winter is the perfect time to explore some of the area’s best and most beautiful walks.

If you’re looking for stunning views and varied landscapes, you won’t want to miss out on the Rochford Circular walk.
Beginning at Stambridge Road’s Mill Lane, this unique walk will see you trek across seawalls and through historic market towns. Along the way, make sure to take in the natural beauty of the River Roach.
Langdon Hills walk
Enjoy a jaw-droppingly beautiful walk through a diverse range of south Essex environments.
Encompassing woodlands, fields and well-worn trails, this walk will take you on a journey through the area’s rare hilly landscape. The walk is located just a few miles west of Basildon and most guides recommend starting at the car park on One Tree Hill.
Southend Heritage walk
For those who are more interested in history than hill climbing, Southend Heritage walk may be the ideal weekend stroll.
The borough of Southend has a rich history filled with fascinating stories and remarkable local characters. This 2km walk will introduce you to many of Southend’s most important points of interest.
The Southend heritage trail takes in the beautiful Clifftown conservation area, parts of the city centre and features near to the seafront. In addition, there is the Prittlewell heritage trail which includes, Priory Park, Churchill Gardens, the statue of Eric Cole and much more.

This is a walk that is accessible by both car and train, making it the perfect choice for anyone eyeing up an easy winter ramble.
You’ll walk alongside the gorgeous Thames Estuary and be dazzled by the bustling wildlife that calls the area home. A nice option is to begin the walk on the 257-hectare nature reserve of Two Tree Island.
