A THIEF accused of stealing items worth up to £500 from a Co-op has been jailed.

Jodie Powell, 41, stole numerous items from the store in Stanford-le-Hope on April 22.

However, it is believed she had stolen more items from the store which are worth between £300 and £500, Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court heard.

She admitted the offence on December 17 and was jailed for two weeks.

Powell, of Bateman Close, Barking, has also been ordered to pay £50 compensation.

A THIEF who stole pet food from Pets At Home has been slapped with a fine.

Ricky Corp, of Academy Drive, Laindon, stole £49.49 worth of pet food from the retailer’s Romford store on October 6.

He admitted one count of shop theft at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on December 10.

The 41-year-old has now been fined £120 and ordered to pay £49.49 in compensation.

Corp was also ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs and a surcharge to fund victim services of £48.

A THIEF who stole £400 worth of clothes from a High Street store has been jailed.

Muhammad Akbar, 35, took a range of men’s clothing from Marks and Spencers in Southend High Street on May 17.

He also targeted Primark in the High Street on the same day, taking a £50 suitcase.

Akbar, of no fixed address, admitted two counts of shop theft at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on December 13 where he was jailed for 12 weeks.

A SHOPLIFTER who targeted two High Street stores has been jailed.

Geoffrey Keable, 32, stole a DKNY bag worth £79.99 from TK Maxx in Southend on November 24, before taking £46 worth of items from Primark on December 7.

He had denied two counts of shop theft but changed his plea to guilty at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on December 16.

Keable, of Coleman Street, Southend, has been jailed for eight weeks and ordered to pay £79.99 in compensation.

A SHOPLIFTER who stole expensive headphones from TK Maxx has been handed a suspended sentence.

Tariq Malik, 45, stole Beats headphones worth £499.98 from the major retailer at Thurrock Shopping Park, next to Lakeside, on May 30, 2023.

He admitted the offence and appeared at Willesden Magistrates’ Court on December 30 where he was handed a 16-week prison sentence, suspended for six months.

Malik, of Carlyon Avenue, Harrow, was also ordered to pay back £499.98 in compensation.

A SHOPLIFTER who stole designer clothes from Lakeside shopping centre has been ordered to take part in drug rehabilitation.

Laura Pattle, 45, stole clothing from Tommy Hilfiger as well as items from Boots and WH Smith from the West Thurrock shopping centre during a shoplifting spree between January 27 and April 26.

Pattle, of Clifton Road, Newham, admitted four counts of shop theft at Thames Magistrates’ Court on December 9 where she was ordered to take part in six months of drug rehabilitation.

A CHOCOLATE thief who robbed a High Street convenience store has been jailed.

Martin Carter, 38, stole chocolate bars and a can of red bull worth a total of £65.40 from Stanford-le-Hope’s Co-op on December 20.

He admitted the offence at Southend Magistrates’ Court on December 23 where he was jailed for two weeks due to a flagrant disregard for court orders.

No order for compensation was made as the items were recovered. However, Carter, of Heathway, Dagenham, was ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85.

A SHOPLIFTER who stole more than £200 worth of alcohol has been handed unpaid work.

Jatiinder Sharma, 41, took £225 of alcoholic drinks from Billericay’s Waitrose supermarket last Thursday.

He admitted one count of shop theft at Southend Magistrates’ Court the following day where he was ordered to carry out 40 hours of unpaid work.

Sharma, of Bradford Road, Ilford, must also take part in rehabilitation activity for up to 20 days, the court heard.

A THIEF who targeted an Asda supermarket has been ordered to pay compensation.

Matthew Cook, 42, stole five bottles of Jack Daniels worth £201 from the superstore at Pipps Hill retail park on May 25.

He admitted the offence at Southend Magistrates’ Court last Friday where he was given a conditional discharge of six months. This means, if he commits another crime, he can be sentenced for this offence and the new one.

Cook, of Wickhay, Basildon, was also ordered to pay £201 in compensation.

A MAN who stole t-shirts from a Lakeside shopping centre store has been ordered to pay £800.

Linas Jaraminas, 26, stole £49.98 worth of shirts from the HMV shop at the centre on December 14, 2023.

He had denied the offence but was found guilty in November.

Jaraminas, of no fixed address, appeared at Southend Magistrates’ Court on Monday where he was fined £150, ordered to pay prosecution costs of £400 and a surcharge to fund victim services of £250.

A BIKE thief who also targeted a Southend High Street store has been hit with a suspended sentence.

Ashley Choat, 34, stole a bicycle worth £500 in Southend on November 15, before stealing handbags from TK Maxx in the High Street on December 12 and 21.

Choat, of Glenwood Avenue, Hockley, admitted three counts of shop theft as well as theft of a pedal cycle at Southend Magistrates’ Court on December 23.

He was ordered to pay £500 in compensation and was sentenced to eight weeks in prison, suspended for a year.
