South Ayrshire residents may be eligible for financial support

The Scottish Government has a range of benefits available from Social Security Scotland including the child payment, the adult disability payment and several Best Start grants.

It’s also more important than ever to check if you are eligible for pension credit after the UK Labour Government announced, earlier this year, their plans to means test the winter fuel payment.

Young people starting work can also apply for the job smart payment, a one-off grant of £314.45.

Ayr SNP MSP Siobhian Brown said: “Last year was a struggle for many and it can be difficult to know where to turn.

“It can sometimes be very difficult to ask for help. I know many pensioners and families have yet to get access to the internet so I would encourage you to pass details and contacts onto friends and family in that situation, as this could be a vital lifeline.

“It’s important that everyone checks if they are eligible for benefits.

“The SNP is once again delivering for the people of Scotland with the powers we have available.

“Meanwhile, the Labour Government who promised the end of austerity is determined to slash benefits for those most in need as we have witnessed with the winter fuel payment.

“The Scottish Government could go so much further if we had the full borrowing powers of an independent country to ensure a fairer future for generations to come.”
