The ‘Every Learner, Every Day’ initiative, launched by South Ayrshire Council in August last year, is focused on making children and young people appreciate the benefits of school.
The initiative has led to an increase in overall school attendance, from 90 per cent in 2023-24 to 92 per cent in the 2024-25 session.
The campaign has been promoted by schools across South Ayrshire with the help of pupils appearing in online videos and adverts.
Hallie, a pupil at Kincaidston Primary School, said: “I love going to school as I like to learn new things.
“I enjoy group work with my friends and we get to play together too. We’re learning Gaelic at the moment which I really like, and PE is always fun.”
Jay, from Marr College, said: “School is helping me become more confident. Everyone is different, and at school, you learn how to interact with different people in different ways.
“You also learn how to respect the views of others and the dangers of things like drugs and alcohol.”
Councillor William Grant, education portfolio holder for South Ayrshire Council, said: “I’m glad the Every Learner, Every Day campaign is helping to make a difference.
“I am particularly pleased with the increased attendance in our secondary schools.
“The start of the year is the perfect time to make new commitments, so we’re highlighting the importance of school to young people as well as parents and carers.
“I’m hopeful that attendance figures will continue to rise throughout 2025.”
