Soul Food Kitchen return to Forres Town Hall next month

A local band “on a mission from a higher power to keep music live” returns to the town hall next month.

Ten-piece rock ‘n’ rollers, Soul Food Café, are playing ‘Frolics In February’ at Forres Town Hall at 8pm on Saturday, February 8 as guests of building custodians Forres Area Community trust (FACT).

Alto sax player Kev Anderson will be part of the full line-up’s first gig since selling out Forres Tolbooth in November.

He said: “It will be another night of great music and dancing!

“We plan to play dance floor favourites from across the decades, including blues rock with slide guitar and harmonica, slower and tighter soul and jazzier numbers, then move up a gear for some rock and roll!

“It’s important to provide a variety of sounds and rhythms from across many great genres that bring the set to life. We love music, especially sharing it with others.

“FACT are offering another opportunity to do this in the perfect venue for a proper gig in the heart of Forres!”

Soul Food Café last performed at the town hall during the Findhorn Bay Festival in September, one of many gigs that kept them busy during 2024.

“We first played at the town hall last January for Lorna Creswell BEM’s birthday,” remembered Kev. “The event was brilliantly put together and really showed the venue’s suitability for entertainment.

“The Tolbooth Courtroom gig was also a blast! It was the first sell-out show that we’ve arranged and presented. An audience of 80 turned that historic building into an atmospheric dance club, full and electric!

“Some of our members also put together a scratch band with guests for a show at RAF Lossiemouth sergeant’s mess for a veterans Christmas party. That was a pleasure and privilege, especially as half the band are either former or currently serving members of the armed forces.”

He added: “Christmas was a chance to get together to party with music rather than rehearse but we squeezed in a few favourites and played music with friends.”

Having also played on Museum Square, at the Eagle Bar and Universal Hall, Soul Food Café are looking forward to increasing their local fan base in 2025.

“We’re passionate about making live music in our area – another reason to live and visit here,” finished Kev. “Folk saying that they are looking forward to seeing us again gives us the best feeling – we really appreciate the support.”
