Work installing 172 solar panels across six roofs at the Grade II Listed Bramley Baths has started today.
Council planning officers last month approved the Baths’ plans to install the panels, and it is hoped the solar panels will help the Baths, which is community led, reduce its electricity usage as the facility bids to become carbon neutral by 2030.
Bramley Baths business development manager Jennie Willetts said: “Last year we were awarded over £80,000 from Sport England to install solar panels across several of our roof structures. By installing these panels we will be able to generate up to 27% of our energy.
“After planning permission was approved by Leeds City Council, we are pleased to announce that the installation of the solar panels will commence today (Wednesday 15 January), starting with scaffolding being erected to the North facing exterior wall.
“Work expected to be completed within the next three weeks.”
The Edwardian building was opened in 1904. The facilities have been community led since 2013.
A community share issue to raise £350,000, which will support a package of roof work at the building, has so far raised more than £192,000. The share issue is still open and mo0re details can be found here.
