Treacherous conditions have caused a large build-up of slow or stationary traffic on the A9 to the south of Inverness, stretching from Milton of Leys to Moy.
Similarly congestion and difficult conditions are being experienced on the A82 Loch Ness-side route at Lochend and from Abriachan south for several miles.
Stagecoach Highland says it is not running any Inverness school services this morning, with a spokesman saying: “Due to heavy snowfall, unfortunately all Inverness school services will not operate this morning.
“Safety of our drivers and passengers are paramount.
“This will be reviewed throughout the day. Inverness control will make contact with all schools.”
A D&E Coaches statement says: “Update: we have taken the decision for the safety of all our passengers and drivers to not run any services or school transportation this morning, but we will re-assess as the day goes on.”
A Highland Council spokeswoman confirmed: “Good morning, due to the weather and road conditions at present, all Highland Council bus services are suspended until further notice.
“Apologies for any inconvenience caused by this.”
