Two flights in and out of Inverness Airport were cancelled on Sunday afternoon after heavy snow brought widespread disruption elsewhere in the UK.

Airports for major cities like Manchester and Liverpool John Lennon were forced to shut their runways for a time on Sunday morning after winter storms hit large parts of England and Wales.

They have since reopened, but disruption is continuing to affect flights i many destinations.

And at lunchtime on Sunday, that disruption in the south began to make its presence felt on flights in and out of Inverness.

easyJet’s 2.55pm arrival into Inverness from Bristol, and the 3.30pm departure heading in the other direction were both listed as cancelled.

easyJet confirmed, via its website, that the cancellations were due to “adverse weather conditions – snow in the UK”.

No other flights in or out of Inverness were showing as cancelled at the time of writing, although upcoming arrivals and departures include flights to or from airports known to have suffered some disruption earlier today – including Manchester.

Passengers are advised to check their flights are operating before setting off on their journeys.

Meanwhile, rail chiefs have warned that lines heading in and out of Inverness are likely to experience “heavy snow” overnight and into Monday, and the Met Office has two active yellow warnings for snow and ice in the Highlands and Moray.
