The area was blanketed by the white stuff for several hours on Saturday but it melted as quickly as it arrived and was all gone by Sunday

The Met Office said that it expected icy stretches “to develop this evening, due to ongoing wet surfaces following earlier rain and, in places, snowmelt”.

It also warns of “frequent sleet or snow showers” moving into West Berkshire and North Hampshire in the early hours of tomorrow (Tuesday).

The warnings are in place until 10am tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.

The Met Office also warns people to allow more time for journeys in the icy conditions and advises pedestrians and cyclists to stick to main roads that are more likely to have been gritted.

“If driving, make sure you have some essentials in your car in the event of any delays (e.g., warm clothing, food, water, a blanket, a torch, ice scraper/de icer, a warning triangle, high visibility vest and an in-car phone charger),” it added.A further yellow warning for snow is then in place throughout Wednesday for the district.

The Met Office said that a “weather system may push snow into some southern counties of England on Wednesday, which could then prove disruptive”.

The warning comes into play at 9am and runs until midnight.

It said that there could be “some significant accumulations [of snow] in places”, with up to 5 cm of snow expected across the warning area.

And then as the skies clear on Wednesday evening, the risk of ice returns.
