Slough PC accused of lying about crash in Eton Wick

PC Charlotte Morris crashed a marked police car into two parked vehicles on Eton Wick Road in August 2023, flipping her own car onto its roof. She was found guilty of driving without care and attention in February this year.

Now a police misconduct hearing has been told that she gave a ‘dishonest and fictitious account’ when she reported the crash.

A summary of the allegation says that immediately after the crash PC Morris claimed over police radio that an animal had crawled out into the road, causing her to swerve.

She then told the attending officer that an animal had been in the road and that she’d swerved to avoid it.

But allegations heard by a misconduct panel claim that it is ‘untrue’ that an animal appeared in the road. The allegations says her ‘dishonest and fictitious account was designed to minimise her culpability for the collision’.

The misconduct hearing was held at Thames Valley Police’s headquarters in Kidlington, Oxfordshire on Monday, December 2. The outcome is still to be reported.

PC Morris plead guilty to driving without care and attention at Swindon Magistrates Court on February 6. She was sentenced to five penalty points on her licence and ordered to pay a fine, costs and a victim surcharge totalling £462.
