Senior citizens enjoy the tea party hosted by Southgate School’s sixth form students
A school sixth form helped bring festive cheer to local pensioners by hosting a senior citizens’ Christmas tea party.
Southgate School held the event for senior residents from local care homes, who enjoyed a delightful Christmas-themed afternoon tea, planned and served by the sixth form students.
By inviting older adults to the school for tea and live music performed by Southgate School’s talented musicians, the event helped spread festive joy as well as “meaningful connections between generations”. It also provided an opportunity for students to engage with and appreciate the life experiences of older members of their community.
Guests were treated to an afternoon filled with good food, fun, and companionship. Activities included bingo and board games, where students and seniors “shared laughter and heartwarming stories”.
A highlight of the event was the Christmas medley and carol performance, adding a “magical touch” to the festive atmosphere.
Martin Lavelle, headteacher of Southgate School, which is part of Middlesex Learning Trust, said: “I am enormously proud that our sixth formers organise this annual event. We firmly believe that young people should give back to our community, and the Christmas tea party is one opportunity for them to do so.”
