Shoppers ‘gutted’ as Select Fashion Thornaby set to close

Select Fashion Thornaby, at the Pavillion Shopping Centre, will be pulling down the shutters for the final time at the end of January.

The women’s clothes shop – which opened in 2023 – confirmed the news on Thursday (January 9) evening in a Facebook post, thanking customers for their “support and love”.

A full statement online said: “It is with sadness that we announce that our Thornaby store will be closing at the end of January.

“The whole team of Thornaby would like to thank all our lovely customers over the past months for all your support and love you have given us.

“We would advise of any credit vouchers issued to use them in time before we close our doors at the end of January 2025.

“Please do come and support us and we would love to see you all before we close. Thank you.”

Select Fashion – which sells a range of women’s clothing from coats and dresses to denim – first began back in the 1980s when it launched on the British fashion scene.

Since then, it has opened several stores across the region, including at The Galleries, in Washington, at The Bridges Shopping Centre in Sunderland and at the Manor Walk Shopping Centre in Cramlington.

“Gutted” customers have since voiced their sadness of the closure online, with one person saying: “That’s really sad! Was a good shop to have around and staff were always nice too.”

Another added: “Aw that is sad to know. But as they say, use it or lose it. I got my new coat there the other week at half price. Got some nice bits in there.”

An exact closing date is not yet known.
