ScotRail Far North Line between Inverness and Wick / Thurso and some Kyle line services have replacement buses laid on after floods and landslides

Train battles snow in the Highlands.

Replacement buses will cover all cancelled Far North Line train services today.

With Friday’s entire timetable between Inverness and Wick/Thurso wiped out by floods and landslides, ScotRail has struck a deal with Kineil Coaches to transport passengers by bus on all the full length journeys and by minibus on shorter commuter routes between Tain, Lairg, Ardgay and Invergordon and Inverness.

As we reported yesterday, engineering teams have been working around the clock to check the route for damage in an effort to resume the normal timetable by 11 am tomorrow (Saturday).

All Kyle line services are also disrupted because of flooding at Beauly, with replacement bus transport either arranged or requested by ScotRail.

Some services to Inverness will run as far as Dingwall before passengers are transferred to bus, while some westbound services will involve bus transport to Dingwall and then normal train service from there to Kyle.

All travellers are being asked to check their journeys at ScotRail and National Rail websites.

A ScotRail spokesman said: “Due to severe weather over the last couple of days, we have flooding and landslips in various locations.

“The line is currently closed between Inverness and Wick. The line is currently closed at Beauly.

“We have been advised that both lines will be closed until Saturday, January 4. This is to allow our teams to make the line safe for trains to run.”
