The NC500 in Northern Scotland bested routes across the British Isles, including Land of the Lakes in the Lake District and The Dragon’s Spine in Wales.
Introducing its ranking, well-known motoring firm Cinch said travelling can “do wonders” for our mental health with 97% of adventurers claiming a planned getaway boosts their energy and spirits.

Discussing the Scottish road trip, which took the top spot for the UK’s best mood-boosting routes, Cinch said the NC500 offers a “spectacular backdrop” for travellers cruising through quaint towns like Durness, Dornoch and John O’Groats.
Sam Sheehan, motoring editor at Cinch, said those planning a road trip in Scotland should consider making their way along the “famous” route.

Those looking for an “action-packed adventure” won’t be disappointed either with plenty of windswept beaches and rural pathways en route.
There is also the chance for travellers to squeeze in some trekking, mountaineering and even sea kayaking, no matter the time of the year.
