The forecaster said a warning for ice would come into place at 4pm on Friday, January 3 and will be in place until 10am on Saturday, January 4.
It covers the whole of the country and comes ahead of a snow warning which will come into place for most of the country on Sunday, January 5 at midnight until midday on January 6.

It said to expect the following:
- Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
- Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
It comes as temperatures hit 5C overnight in Eskdalemuir in Dumfries and Galloway at 11pm on Thursday night.
The coldest temperature recorded in January last year was minus 14C in Dalwhinnie in the Highlands.
National Rail has also said the line between Inverness and Dingwall would be closed until at least 11am on Saturday because of “multiple landslips and areas flooded,” meaning no ScotRail services between Inverness and Wick/Thurso or between Inverness and Kyle of Lochalsh.
