This is due to ‘extremely dangerous’ site conditions, which include the presence of ice and black ice.
St Thomas’ Primary School in Stockton Heath is shut for the day, with a further risk assessment being undertaken both this afternoon and tomorrow morning to determine whether it will reopen tomorrow.
Lymm High School is also closed. Staff say they will be working hard to ensure they can open safely tomorrow.
Another school to close is Great Sankey High School. Staff have said they have done all they can to try and ensure the site is safe. Details about tomorrow’s opening will be sent out to parents this afternoon.
This story will be updated as and when we hear more.
It comes after a yellow weather warning for ice was issued for the town yesterday, Tuesday.
The Met Office has issued the following advice for the icy weather:
“Keep yourself and your family safe when it is icy. Plan to leave the house at least five minutes earlier than normal. Not needing to rush, reduces your risk of accidents, slips, and falls.
“If you need to make a journey on foot, try to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery. Similarly, if cycling, try and stick to main roads which are more likely to have been treated.
“Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.
“Be prepared for weather warnings to change: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.”
