Sarum u3a to host Richard Rickitt for bee conservation talk

Presented by Richard Rickitt, renowned beekeeper and co-editor of the BeeCraft magazine, the talk will explore the threats facing pollinators such as bumblebees, solitary bees and honeybees.

These creatures are crucial to the UK’s food supply, with nearly 300 bee species and other pollinators responsible for more than a third of everything we eat.

However, they are currently under threat from pesticides, habitat loss and intensive agriculture.

The talk, organised by Sarum u3a, which will take place at St Francis Church, Beatrice Road, on Wednesday, January 15, will provide practical advice on creating a pollinator-friendly environment in gardens or even window boxes.

Honey and books, including Beekeeping for Gardeners by Mr Rickitt, will be available for purchase at the end of the talk.

The event is open to the public, with guests invited to join Sarum u3a after two visits. Doors open at 10am for 10.30am start.

Mr Rickitt’s work in the field is widely recognised, with BeeCraft magazine, established in 1919, being read by beekeepers and entomologists globally.

Parking for the event is available at the rear of the church or in a car park on the opposite side of the main road from the church.
